Implantation of community gardens in the Basic Health Units of Florianópolis, SC, Brazil

This text aims to present the implementation of institutional and community gardens, based
on agroecological basis, based on intra and intersectoral work carried out within the scope
of the Health Promotion Coordination, a sector linked to Health Surveillance of the Municipal
Health Department of Florianópolis, Brazil. The partnership involves the Capital Improvement
Company, responsible for the management of solid waste, and workers and communities of
the Basic Health Units. Thirteen (13) gardens were planted jointly between 2016 and 2017 with
the prospect of contributing to the Attention to personal, community and environmental health.
Medicinal plants predominated in cultivation, and expressed the local investment in the implementation
of the National Policy on Integrative and Complementary Practices, which includes
the prescription of herbal medicines by health professionals.
