Abstract

The negative consequences of the tools used in the modernization of agriculture were based
on the search for production systems based on new patterns of development that are socially
viable to family farmers and suitable for the different ecosystems exploited. Experiences show
that agroecological production systems have great potential to respond to the needs of production,
family feeding and market participation, without causing environmental damage. This
work had to perform a diagnosis of the agroecological practices used by farmers in the Olaria
neighborhood, in Nova Xavantina-MT. Among the main practices used by the interviewees
are the use of polycultures, alternative substrates and green manuring. Knowledge of the past
between generations, which highlights the importance of considering the knowledge of local
producers, and the need to develop together with the community, actions that should privilege
the endogenous potential, in order to promote agroecological practices according to the specifics
of families.
