Abstract

Rural environmental quality is considered one of the determining factors for the success of sustainable agricultural production and the permanence of man in the field. Faced with this socio-environmental reality, the demand for ecosystem services is growing. However, little is known about the dynamics of the man-field relationship and environmentally conserved areas. The Rapatra project has as one of its objectives to provide subsidies to enable the self-sustaining rural life. As one of the stages of this proposal, this work aims to identify interface nuclei-conservation units in order to contribute to the deepening of local and regional studies and the development of strategies to improve this relationship. Seventeen of the 61 settlements studied were identified in 12 states. Among the conservation units registered, 62.5% were classified as Sustainable Use Units, while 37.5% were considered Integral Protection Units. Most of the settlements had an interface with at least one conservation unit. However, Aripoanã-Guariba interacted with six conservation units of different categories in Amazonas. The results demonstrated the diversity of interfaces observed in different regions of Brazil and suggest the importance of local studies to understand the dynamics of these relations.
