Abstract

The Sustainable Backyards Project aims to encourage and to promote the awareness of vegetables, fruit trees, medicinal plants and PANC's production in twenty (20) families in the neighborhoods of House of Timothy. The project is coordinated by the Embrapa Roraima along with the House of Timothy, in partnership with the Agriculture, Livestock and Supply State Department of Roraima State and others partnership institutions. Thus, the idea of ​​this project is to expand for surrounding families this methodology already done with the gardens and orchards in the House of Timothy, so these families can produce part of their food and replicate to their neighbors, also generating extra income or local exchange system. The commitment of participating families in the project is to "Adopt a Neighbour" and transmit their knowledge acquired, since the project team makes periodic visits, from the implementation of the backyards to the technical follow up of driving.

Until this moment there are five (05) families producing with installed and accompanied backyards. From the second half of 2018 until the first quarter of 2019 the aim is to achieve the inclusion of fifteen (15) families.
