Abstract

The homegardens agroforestry have a significant importance in support of people and knowledge
of natural environments and their forms of management, because they contribute to the
livelihoods of certain populations. The study was conducted with the objective of characterizing
the backyards of agroforestry family units in the urban area in order to meet the diversity of
species, and to characterize the profile of the maintainers of these áreas. The study was carried
out in 18 family units in the districts of Centro and Cidade Alta located in the municipalities
of Belterra and Mojuí dos Campos, respectively, and in the Jacamim and Colônia São José
communities, located in the urban area of Santarém-PA. The agroforestry backyards of urban
municipality west of Pará presented themselves so diversified in relation to the species, these
are marked deeply by the presence of fruit species. It was observed that women were cited as
the main responsible for the management of backyards.
