The abstract outlines the experiences of teaching and learning experienced by the students and teachers of José do Patrocínio Municipal School, located in the rural area of the municipality of Campo Grande, MS in an organic vegetable garden project. Through the project, the school community is encouraged to participate in the context of rural education, in order to contribute to the performance of students in basic education, based on interventions in situations identified by the school itself as problematic. It was noticed in the José do Patrocínio Municipal School, the need to work through practical and theoretical classes a school vegetable garden, as a pedagogical tool for contextualized and meaningful learning. As a result, students have acquired healthier eating habits as well as redeemed cultural values from rural life.
