Garden as occupational therapy at a recovery center in the municipality of Santarém, Pará

Abstract

The present report aims to export the main results of the project of implantation of a vegetable
garden within the Happy Family Therapeutic Center in the municipality of Santarém, Pará.
The main objective was the integration of a garden as daily activities providing a new routine
through manual work and educational experiences. During the execution of the inmates’ free
time it was used in multifunctional activities that covered the whole process of construction
and maintenance of the garden. The construction of the garden encouraged teamwork and the
creativity of the inmates and allowed the development of a sense of responsibility and at the
same time a diversification of food.
