Abstract

The objective of this study was to present the environmental perception of the Nossa Terra
Nossa Gente rural village, located nowdays where exists yhe sugar cane field of the Cooperative
Agricultural Center of Rio Branco Sugarcane Producers (COOPERB), putting at risk the
agroecological production of the community. The survey was performed through a questionnaire
applied among the 25 participants. Among the families, 40% of them are agroecological
producers, 12 families participate in the delivery of food to the National Supply Company (CONAB),
60% said that the spraying of pesticides would harm and/or kill the cultivated plants. The
participants’ testimony reveals that the quality of life of the families located in the village as well
as the quality of the environment in which they are, together with what they cultivate, may be
compromised by the use of pesticides used in the cultivation of sugar cane in their proximity.
