Fluvial erosion tracking in the right bank of Rio Pomba in the county of Guarani (MG)

The erosion is a natural occurrence, however, it is being accelerated with the human intervention.
As long as cities grow, unsuitable areas are wildly occupied, as riverbanks, hillsides and
hilltops. This occupation leads to the removal of vegetation cover, thereat, soil tends to stay
unprotected and it facilitates the erosion. In the study, a monitoring system for fluvial erosion
was accomplished through the use of erosion pins. The work was performed on the right bank
of Rio Pomba, data were collected from three different points, from September 2013 to April
2014. It was noticed a higher proportion of erosion in the urban center, as the location suffers
higher directly influence due to activities such as the disordered expansion of urbanization.
This influence caused higher waterproofing in the soil with a lower vegetation cover at the
sample point leading to higher surface runoff, a fundamental factor for the erosion process.
