Abstract

The Cooperative of Work, Technical Assistance, Rural Extension andEnvironment (AMATER),
togetherwiththePaulistan Foundation for Education, Technology andCulture, an entity linked
to the Municipal Department of Labor and Entrepreneurship of the municipality of São Paulo
workedonthedevelopmentofthePaulistanAgriculturalProgram: Gardensand Nurseries in the
Community. This experience involved 15 professionals from the AMATER technical team with
a multidisciplinary profile focusing in training ofurbanandperiurbanfarmers in thecity of São
Paulo. The project was technically, pedagogicallyandpoliticallysupportedtheoreticallybyAgroecologyand
Paulo Freire’sTheories for the development of tools work for the most diverse contexts
found in each group of farmers involved in the training process. As results, advances
were made in the organizational structures of groups and mobilizations with broad participation
in order to rethink and act on issues of food security and conservation of environmental resources
in the urban environment.
