Between 2012 and 2014, public and private investments totaling 10.3 billion reais were settled
in the district of Ilha da Madeira, in the municipality of Itaguaí. The municipality is bordering on
the Santa Cruz neighborhood, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. And subsidiaries and outsourced
companies have settled in the locality due to its proximity to the Industrial District of Santa
Cruz. Seropédica is a municipality in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro (RMRJ), close
to Itaguaí, which also experiences urban expansion and logistic activities in its territory in recent
years. In this sense, this research seeks to analyze which public policies aimed at family
farming have been developed within the municipalities of Itaguaí and Seropédica. For this,
were interviewed local small farmers participating in the Territorial Colony of the Bay of Ilha
Grande (BIG) that operate in the respective localities. And the little capillarity of public policies
directed to the small farmers of perimetropolitan areas such as the municipalities of Seropédica
and Itaguaí was observed.
