The spontaneous flora in horticultural systems of the city of La Plata (Buenos Aires, Argentina). An important reservoir of biodiversity
Keywords:
weeds, horticulture, spontaneous vegetation, conservation, use valueAbstract
We characterized the spontaneous species present in horticultural systems of La Plata. A high
number of species, genera, families of spontaneous and dicotyledons were found. The natives
were well represented. The biennial biennials were higher than the annual ones. A high number
of species with use value was observed. The results confirm that the horticultural systems
of the city of La Plata harbor an important floristic richness. The study area could maintain a
great diversity of spontaneous ones due to the spatial heterogeneity generated by the diversity
of cultures. The greatest contribution to such conservation would be given by less intensive
and diversified agriculture styles, such as organic or low input. The production of few crops
would have a negative effect on the wealth of spontaneous and associated ecological services.
