The objective of this study was to evaluate the conditions of use of agrochemicals by family
farmers in a rural community in the municipality of Viçosa, MG. This is a cross-sectional study,
carried out from January to July 2016. A semi-structured questionnaire was applied to evaluate
the use of pesticides, use of PPE and respect to the product’s grace period. The data were
analyzed in the SPSS. Descriptive analyzes and Pearson’s Chi-square test were performed
to verify the association between the variables. 59 family farmers participated in the study.
Glyphosate was the most commonly used pesticide, and the majority of the family farmers
doing the spraying activity did not use PPE or used it incorrectly. The use of pesticides was
associated with the use of PPE (p = 0.000). The application of pesticides is a concern, since it
is done indiscriminately and inadequately, leading to acute and chronic manifestations.
