Abstract

The Rio Cajari Extractive Reserve is inhabited by traditional populations that develop their production systems based on agroextractivism, the forests is source of the products that are demanded for food, folk medicine, tools and fishing and farming utensils, and housing construction. However, in recent years fire rates have increased and of deforestation in this region, threatening many native species for which management information is not yet available. Thus, the present study aimed to collect seeds of native species of the Resex Rio Cajari to produce seedlings and subsequently to distribute in the communities of the region. So far have been collected and are being propagated seeds of eight native species. This action contributes to the strategies of sovereignty and food security of these populations, since these species, besides being used in the communities, also have their surplus marketed in the state's urban fairs.
