Abstract

Paraiso do Rio Preto agrovillage is located approximately 120 km from its capital city of Vila
Rica-MT and about 1100 km from the capital Cuiabá. Residents are failing to produce vegetables
and fruits, due to the agrotoxic drift of monocultures neighboring agrovila. And because of
these factors, the objective of this work was to collect information on the problems of the use
of pesticides in soybeans in the cultivation of vegetables at the site. A qualitative methodology
was used, based on the interview technique through a semistructured questionnaire. About
80% of the inhabitants stopped producing some type of vegetable or fruit of importance food,
being hostages of the products coming from the city. The few who still insist, plant in places
that are in direct contact with the drift, causing the burning and consequently death of the
plants. This puts at risk the food security of the residents, since access to food in urban centers
is about 120 km away
