A formação do Banco Municipal de Sementes de Jucati: uma contribuição da assistência técnica e extensão rural pública no Agreste Pernambucano

The present experiment deals with a work of technical assistance and rural extension (Ater) for the conservation of landraces of family farming with the objective of forming a municipal landraces seeds bank (BMS) at the headquarters of the rural workers union of the municipality of Jucati, Pernambuco, promoting awareness for the conservation and collective management of landraces seeds. The experiment was carried out from May to December 2018 through nine meetings with farmers and the use of participatory methodologies. The Municipal Seed Bank was formed by seventeen farmers who formed an initial stock of approximately 100 kg of beans, maize and other crops. Experience has shown us the importance of an Ater with principles of agroecology to develop processes together with the farmers to rescue and preserve landraces seeds and promote a work of collective empowerment of farmers.
