Abstract

The present work proposes to analyze crisis processes and construction of agroecological knowledge, in a rural settlement implanted in an old extensive cattle ranch, in Amazonian territory. The starting point of the study was to answer two related questions: i) how have Amazonian family agro-ecosystems reacted to technological impositions? ii) And how have they managed to maintain healthy food production through diversified production systems? Applying the MESMIS tool in three agroecosystems, we test the hypothesis that it is in the complexity of productive strategies - in diversity and integration, the secret to the success of Amazonian family agroecosystems, as well as their autonomy, strengthening their capacity to innovate and resist the contemporary crises of the Amazon field.
