Abstract

Among the important factors to be evaluated in the production process are the substrates. Substrate for plants is all material used as growth medium for plants. The objective was to develop a low cost substrate, from clumps of banana mixed to the soil with a view to better bean production. It was ground pseudocaule of banana and mixed to the soil in different concentrations and placed for decomposition. In each mixture was placed 10% of manure from screened corral. For the evaluation of the ideal substrate concentration, bean plants were used in pots of 5000 mL, in the substrates prepared with 4 concentration levels (10%, 20%, 30%, 40%) mixed in soil and soil + sieved (10%). The banana pseudocaule can be used as a soil enrichment option for bean production, and the concentration that presented the best results was 20% of pseudocaule mixed with the soil.
