Food with transgenic raw Material and consumer options in Serrinha-BA

Food products with transgenic raw Material are being inserted into human food, without the
population being able to decide whether or not to consume it. The present study intends to propitiate
the construction of strategies in which the right of choice, and the expansion of the level
of information of the consumers of the Territory of Sisal - BA, about the presence of transgenic
products in the foodstuff is possible. The identification of the products was due to the observation
of the packaging of the products, as to the presence or absence of the identification symbol
of the transgenic products. The survey raised 98 product brands, divided among 11 categories
of foodstuffs. As 33.6% of the brands were identified with the symbol of transgenic while
66.3% did not contain this information. It was found that the right to information as well as the
right of choice to consume or not a product of transgenic origin, is being denied to consumers.
