Forum to combat the use of agrochemicals in the Alfenas region: reports of experiences of a university extension project

Abstract

The forum to combat the use of agrochemicals - food sovereignty and agroecology in the
Alfenas region - is an university extension project, within the context of the permanent campaing
against the agrochemicals and for life.The project has been developed in 2016 aiming
to sensitize and mobilize local and regional people against the risks of agrochemicals use for
human health the environment. Employing methodologies of popular engagement and research-
action, the forum planned and made dialogical interventions in Alfenas region. The paper is
a reflexive report of some of the experiences and actions made by the forum in the fight against
the use of agrochemicals, promoting this discussion in two secondary schools, partners of the
project in Alfenas city. Within the results achieved by the project the most important are the
repercussion of the schools interventions and the education processes, the spreading against
the agrochemicals and the presentation of agroecology as alternatives to the agrobusiness.
