Origem de Serra do Navio: impactos socioambientais e econômicos

Abstract

This is an experience report, which aims to describe the history of the municipality of Serra do Navio (Amapá State), aiming to address the process of population growth, local development and environmental damage generated over time by several factors including the environmental impacts left by ICOMI in the locality. During the course of the research, we can see the great achievements made by ICOMI (Trade and Mining Industry) in the community, but also highlight the damage and environmental damage caused by it. Once the company extracted wealth, and retired before the end of its contract, causing a certain disruption in society, pollution of rivers and streams causing great damage to the riverine population and prospectors who in turn were forced to move to the village, resulting in the emergence of favelas and disorderly growth of the population.
