Territory: this is a question that presents itself in a polysemic way with multiple scenarios, not only geographic, but also sociological, economic, political, anthropological, environmental, etc. (HAESBAERT, 2012), of tangible and intangible categories, capable of promoting its own existence and setting for human disputes. With regard to the Brazilian rural territories, these spaces have historically been responsible for forming part of the identity of Brazilian society, forged largely by cultural miscegenation, mainly between Europeans, Africans and indigenous peoples (HOLANDA, 2004). From this perspective, this work aims to present endogenous specificities and agroecological characteristics of traditional communities of artisanal farmers and artisanal fishermen from the Itaguaí Identity Territory - TIdI, - Rio de Janeiro - Brazil. These collectives are more sensitive to abrupt changes in space, because they have the main bases supporting their socio-historical and socioeconomic characteristics in their natural environments. The methodology of this work is applied to a qualitative model of participant observation, where the main objective is to develop techniques that seek to understand and answer questions and problems with regard to issues of socio-cultural, economic, agroecological and rural aspects, being the researcher himself an integral part of the knowledge production process. Therefore, this work determines and defines its spatial delimitation as the Identity Territory of Itaguaí (TIdI), which encompasses the geographical limitation of the municipality of Itaguaí itself and other specific localities of its surroundings (which present relations of interdependence even if it is located outside its geographical limits of the municipality), subdividing into a total of seven subterories (multisweets). Thus, this work aims to propose a rescue that proposes bases that lead to the survival and maintenance of traditional rural communities and family farmers and artisanal fishermen of the locality of the TIdI, as a mechanism for survival of their territorialities through the valorization of their historical actions, economies and agroecologies. It is concluded that gradually the characteristics of the ruralities and agro-ecological practices in the territory are gradually being lost as the young people are abandoning their rural spaces, due to the absence of public and social policies that value agroecological activities and ruralities in the territory.
