Agroecology and Sustainability in the Anthropocene Age

This essay starts from a brief contextualization of the climate change scenario, pointing out the
main reasons that contribute to the intensification of the greenhouse effect. Secondly, it points
to the possible consequences of this phenomenon on ecosystems, in particular on agroecosystems.
In a third moment, it presents some initiatives that contribute to mitigate the effects
of these changes, from the incorporation of ecological principles in the forms of management
of the agroecosystems, and cites examples of forms of organization, from the point of view of
the production and the consumption of foods . Finally, it highlights the importance of “thinking
and acting” to mitigate the impacts of climate change, highlighting the need to sensitize technicians,
farmers and consumers, to reorient production processes and to move towards more
sustainable lifestyles.
