The goal of this study is to systematize the main agroecological practices with the potential
to combat desertification in the Brazilian Semiarid. For that, bibliographic research and documentary
research were carried out. The main practices identified were: composting, use of the
natural resources of the local biome, utilization of forage from caatinga, irrigation techniques,
rainwater collection system - concept zero base, no-tillage system and diversified breeding and
crop consortium. The presented practices do not encompass all the possibilities of sustainable
actions in agricultural activity. However, it was possible to identify that the strategies discussed
are based on agroecological principles. Thus, it can be noticed that the role of agroecology
goes beyond the intention of generating income in small agricultural establishments and it reaches
more spatial and population dimensions, such as the case of combating desertification
in the Brazilian Semiarid region.
