Abstract

This article aims to discuss the issue of natural resource management with emphasis on the
situation of Permanent Preservation Areas (APP s) in the municipality of Altamira in southwestern
Para. The study was conducted with 50 farmers residing Settlement Project in Assurini,
an area located close to the headquarters of the municipality, which has an important role in
socio-economic life of the city. In the settlement area there is a diversity of streams and water
sources, however, from the development of agricultural activities an accelerated fragmentation
of Permanent Preservation Areas (APP,s), causing impacts on water levels in streams occurred.
To minimize these impacts is necessary to seek management alternatives that take into
account local development and the participation of many stakeholders in the development of
the settlement.
