Abstract

Since the mid-1980s, several experiments have emerged that challenge the conventional model of agriculture. New strategies for rural development aimed at strengthening family-based ecological agriculture were carried out based on the historical demand of environmental movements, farmers, non-governmental organizations and consumers. In this context, the Bank of the State of Rio Grande do Sul developed two programs: Rio Grande Ecológico and Sementes. In the first program, investments and costs were invested, R $ 1,822,013.14. In the second, more than 290 million seedlings and / or seeds of native trees, creole seeds and agroecological horticulture have been distributed to rural producers, schools, family farmer cooperatives, associations of ecological farmers, indigenous groups, quilombolas, in university extension work, agro-ecological fairs and in rural and environmental events.
