Abstract

  • Rural youth represent a preponderant factor in the continuity of family activities in settlement areas in the southern forest of Pernambuco. The objective of this study was to understand the challenges and perspectives that guide students of high school in IFPE (agricultural vocational education) to finish the course. This way were selected farmer’s sons with rural link (only twenty with the desired profile), and divided into two groups: JAE (young people wish to remain in rural areas after graduation) and JAM (young people wish to migrate). The following were evaluated: family coexistence, community participation, course contribution and gender issues. n 40% of the young people, the desire to remain in the property after graduation (JAE) was observed, of which 20% reported participating in community groups in rural areas. All the interviewees stressed the importance of the course in their properties. Only 20% of the interviewed women prevailed in the desire to remain in the property after they had graduated.
