Abstract

After centuries of having their farming practices relegated, as well as their religion, the Xukuru of the Ororubá, living in Pesqueira and Poção (State of Pernambuco), managed to have their territory legally homologated, thus making it possible to cultivate it freely. They began to think about how to reestablish the agriculture of the ancestors, using traditional knowledge and religion. This work aims to understand how the Xukuru of the Ororubá’s agriculture strengthens the indigenous being. For this, field observation was made with photographs and audio recordings of interviews conducted under the technique of oral history. It is observed that the practice of agriculture promotes the extolling of that native people by strengthening the ties between people and the territory, bringing to the fore memories from the old.
