Based on ethnographic records collected between 2016 and 2017 in the Argentine Pampean
Region, we risk sketching an interpretation of migratory phenomena in the new globalized rurality.
Under the paradigm of agroecology, in recent years in our country is emerging a subaltern
but growing trend of young migrants returning to the “countryside” seeking to install alternative
ways of working the land to those promoted by agribusiness. In this context, it is possible to
complicate the phenomenon of the Argentine “rural exodus”, which has become the dominant
model of internal migrations in our country since the beginning of the century until today, taking
care of these alternative subjects, these “others”, who are still victims of the inequality that the
agribusiness system imposes, support the possibility of repopulating the countryside under a
new rural-urban population dynamic.
