Abstract

This report discusses the project that aims to give political visibility to the farmers from Queimados-
RJ in association with the City Hall, which does not define in its Master Plan the rural
zone. The team from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro has been doing a socio-
-economic and environmental survey with families, from plot to plot, identifying the producing
public to foment actions that benefit it. The inaccuracy of information makes it difficult to access
agroecological public policies, such as Rural Extension and Institutional Markets. The rural
environment consists of a settlement and five other locations, with agro-ecological farmers
trading in the surrounding area. An expansion projection of the industrial district of Queimados
to the settlement area and the uncertainties of permanence in the place has discouraged
residents from investing in their plots, causing the team to also perform an educational work
regarding the rights and duties of residents in areas of land reform.
