This experiment's goal was to test an alternative method to control weed species on agroforestry systems and restoration implementations. Therefore, differences concerning Brachiaria decumbens' budding were analysed surrounding shrubby trees individuals, through the crowning technique associated with further soil covering with organic matter and the crowning associated with further soil covering with cardboards. The experiment was conducted on the Primavesi agroforestry system, located at the Universidade Federal de São Carlos - campus Sorocaba, in São Paulo (Brazil), during agroecological tasks lead by the Núcleo de Agroecologia Apete Caapua (NAAC) along with the university community. It was used two different treatments on eight Vermonia polyanthe individuals, so that on four of them it was used the mentioned soil covering with cardboards and on the other four the covering with only organic matter. The results were evaluated after one year of implementation and it was observed that the plants mulched with cardboards showed much less recolonization of weed species than the individuals crowned and mulched with organic matter, proving the efficiency of cardboard use on Brachiaria decumbens control.
