National Agroecology Plan in Uruguay: a necessary public policy

We are facing an unprecedented crisis with record levels of rural poverty, hunger, migration
and environmental degradation. Synergistically, agrarian intensification; The globalization of
the food system, environmental degradation and climate change, increase vulnerability. It is
imperative to promote new forms of production, distribution and consumption, from an agroecological
approach; As a strategy of social transformation. More than three decades of development
of Agroecology in Uruguay, allow to begin the construction of the National Agroecology
Plan. Promoted to promote: food sovereignty; Sustainable use of natural assets, native seeds
and native genetic resources; Active participation of communities in the sustainable management
of their territories and watersheds; Access to land and security of tenure; Local and
neighborhood markets; Training and research in agroecology; Differentiated policies for family
agriculture, equity of young people and women. Raising the dispute of a territorial, political,
social, and natural resources management that contributes to national development.
