The Food Purchase Program (PAA) is one of the main institutional procurement programs
and represents an incentive to build marketing-friendly practices for family farmers, as well as
guaranteeing access to food in a regularity necessary for populations in situations of insecurity
food and nutrition. In Maracanaú, the Municipality approved the Municipal Law establishing the
PAA, aiming at acquiring foodstuffs from farmers living in Maracanaú/CE. The beneficiaries
of the program were 52 farmers from the Indigenous Reserve and 15 farmers from Mucunã.
The most agricultural products provided by the producers during the period of the PAA were
mango, banana and pork. It was concluded that the PAA plays a significant role in improving
access to commercialization of agricultural products by farmers in Maracanaú/CE, as well as
providing access to adequate and healthy food for people assisted in the socio-welfare network
