Abstract

The present work analyzes the data declared in the CAR (Rural Environmental Cadastre) to
characterize and evaluate the environmental suitability of a rural settlement in the Portal of
the Amazon (northern Mato Grosso state) and discusses its use as a territorial management
tool. Based on geographic data plotted in the form of maps, data of native vegetation cover,
presence of consolidated rural areas and limits of 61 rural properties are represented. There is
an expansion of settlement limits in the information declared by the rural producers in comparison
to the original limits, a high concentration of properties with more than 90% of their total
area with areas of consolidated use. It can be concluded that CAR can be an important tool for
territorial management of rural settlements.
