Access to schooling for young, adults and old people: the case study in the Girassol Community Garden – São Sebastião/DF

The Girassol Community Garden appeared on 2004 in course difficulties to come face to face
with community of the district Morro Azul of the city São Sebastião, Distrito Federal. Actually
is associate the Casa de Cultura e Educação Permanente de São Sebastião. This present
research have by purpose to announce education data collection with members of Girassol
Community Garden and aims to contribute to the formulation of public policies. The presentation
these data is important for to subsidize education projects and publics policies at the local
level. The importance for agroecology is justified by a work of empowerment for the improvement
of initiatives that encourage the development of the garden in the public space. Methodologically,
this is a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive research whose data collection procedure
involved non-participant observation, semi-structured interview and documentary analysis. As
main results, it was verified that 62.5% of the members of Girassol Community Garden have
incomplete elementary school, 25% have completed high school and 12.5% have incomplete
high school. As conclusions, verify a necessity for access to schooling in the segments of youth
and adult education, and knowledge relevant to environmental education and the work that they develop in the garden, in a perspective of initial and continuing vocational training, with the
promotion of creation of employment and lace.
