Abstract

The objective of this work is to analyze the relationship between the new Forest Law and the
agroecological system, considering as a point of intersection the socioenvironmental function
of the land. Methodologically, the research uses bibliographical review and semi-structured
questionnaires. The result of the empirical research revealed that in practice the agroecological
movement fulfills the socio-environmental function of the land. It was concluded that
agroecology is an effective political strategy for the transition and maintenance of socially
just and environmentally sustainable agriculture. However, the new Forestry Law violates the
socio-environmental function of the land, and this is in opposition to the agroecological logic,
which in practice can hinder the development of sustainable agriculture in the local communities
and in the rural environment in general, also interfering in security And food sovereignty
of the population.
