Qualitative analysis of the technical assistance provided to the rural settlements of the agrarian reform in the city of Picuí-PB

Abstract

Technical assistance and rural extension are services of fundamental importance in the process
of rural development and agricultural activity. This study qualitatively analyzes the actions
of technical assistance and rural extension in three rural settlements in the municipality of
Picuí-Pb: Barra Nova, Bezerros and Boa Sorte, from July / 2015 to February / 2016, with the
objective of analyzing the Technical assistance services and rural extension in the areas of
agrarian reform settlements. After acquiring the land, families develop various activities such
as growing vegetables, fruit and seasonal crops corn and beans. It is concluded, then, by the
depositions of the settlers that the absence of technical assistance contributes to the lack of effective
orientation, which increases the distance between family farmers and financial agents,
making it difficult to access financing to invest in sustainable alternatives compatible with the
reality of family farming.
