Abstract

The present work seeks to focus the discussion on Technical Assistance and Rural Extension
(ATER) offered to family farmers, within the scope of the public policies that constitute the
Citizenship Territories Program in Baixo Tocantins-PA, executed by the Ministry of Agrarian
Development (MDA). The aspects related to agroecology and sustainability, mainly in the Amazon
region, are considered as central points of the work of the technicians who work directly
with the farmers, which allows the unveiling of a more precise evaluation on whether these
policies aimed at making the activity Are being effectively applied, or if they do not work to
their satisfaction. The results show that the ATER institutions are still poorly prepared to work
with actions aimed at a new rural extension, to allow the improvement of the extension actions
towards the socio-environmental sustainability of the agricultural activity.
