In this work we present a census analysis and the mapping of the production of food from the Milton Santos settlement in the city of Americana / São Paulo. Starting from the understanding of public policy as something necessary to solve a problem, we understand that to understand the reality in which public policy is is of fundamental importance for the success of the policy itself. This work is the result of a teaching project, developed together with the Agroecology Nucleus, Education and Society - NEAES of the Federal Institute of São Paulo. We were able to verify that of settled families do not depend exclusively on food production for their survival, the production, for most of them, is a complementary activity. However, in analyzing the families organized around the cooperative work, we realize that food production is a fundamental part of the income of these families.
