Agroecology as a perspective of sustainability in family agriculture in the municipality of Miracema - RJ

Abstract

The present study evaluates social, economic and environmental aspects arising from the practices of family farmers in the municipality of Miracema-RJ, who weekly market their production in the Agroecological Fair, in order to observe how they provide the sustainable development of family-based agriculture. For that, interviews were conducted in dialogue with four of these producers. Data were obtained through an on-site visit, with photographic record. The creation of the Fair allowed access to the local market, organization by the producers to acquire more diversified production, increase in the family income, collaborating with the permanence of the families in the field. It was also observed that there are challenges to be overcome, since most of the respondents are unable to account for their production costs or to measure the quantities marketed. Also, there is insufficient technical advice, water availability, among others, that make it impossible to strengthen this form of social organization.
