Abstract

Abstract

Banana is one of the main fruits produced and marketed. The main phytosanitary problems for banana cultivation in the Agreste region of Paraíba are the banana weevil (Cosmopolites sordidus) and the Fusarium wilt (Fusarium oxysporum). The objective of this work was to evaluate the banana weevil population using Pacovan pseudocaule baits in clumps of the Pacovan, Princesa, Pacovan Ken and Tropical varieties, evaluating the preference or not of the insects for the varieties mentioned. The experiment was carried out in randomized blocks using baits (50cm) of the tile type. The insects were evaluated in the baits for 15 days, every three days. The number of insects in the baits did not differentiate between the varieties tested by the test F. It was concluded that there was no difference between the number of insects in the baits placed in the clumps of the varieties tested; and that the insect population is at the control level (media of 4,5 insects/bait) in banana.
