Abstract

The process of modernization of agriculture has affected gender differently in the countryside,
with women being the main disadvantaged because of their historically attributed function of
the sexual division of labor. The objective of the present research is to better understand the
condition of rural women and to unveil strategies to be developed in the process of agroecological
transition that aim at gender equity in the countryside. To this end, it was followed the execution
of an ATER project developed specifically for rural women in the Vale do Ribeira region,
in São Paulo, and systematized the identified strategies, demonstrating, finally, the importance
of the creation of public policies with a gender cut.
