Abstract

Rural women live in a context of unfavorable gender conditions. However, they have been
showing an increasing improvement of their self-organization skills, as well, the strength of
their political participation with claims of social and economical rights, autonomy and recognition
as an income generating group. This article aims to show that rural women’s participation
at he economical activities is relevant. A practical example of that is their acting at the agroecological
fairs, which are important because of the trading of healthier products, pesticide-free.
That said, those fairs become an alternative of income improvement and political visibility in
those women’s lives. All of this is important for their process of empowerment, even though,
initially, they cannot see the dimension of their work. Agroecology shows pontential to make
those women farmers confront their vulnerabilities conditions and conquer power at personal,
family production and political spheres.
