Characterization of non agricultural income types in three rural communities in the Municipality of President Juscelino – Maranhão

Abstract

The objective of this study was to characterize the types of non - agricultural incomes in the
rural communities Boa Vista dos Pinhos, Juçaral dos Pretos and Assentamento Folhal in the
municipality of Presidente Juscelino - MA. Data were collected through a questionnaire composed
of open and closed questions related to the types of non-agricultural incomes, activities
developed, main problems and barriers related to production and income origin, secondary
data were collected through bibliographic research and documentary. The Boa Vista dos Pinos
community was the one that stood out the most in relation to the other two studied. It is concluded
that all types of non-agricultural income need to be linked to the lives of these people
because this increases the opportunities of families in times of scarcity in the countryside.
