Institutionalization of agroecology as scientific field

This work aims to analyze the institutionalization dynamic of agroecology as a scientific field. For this, we took as a methodological path to research groups registered in the Brazilian Research Groups Directory (DGP) of CNPq, which could be found in search of "agroecology" research therm. The results found suggest that there has been a widening of scientific production based on the principles of agroecology since the 1970s, with an increase beginning in 2000. It can be explained by the elaboration of public policies aimed at familiar agriculture and agrarian reform, in a perspective of sustainable rural development; by the promotion of public pollicies for the creation of NEAs, R-NEA e CVTs e by recent studies of FAO that suggested a need for more research capable of influencing in nutritional and food security, environmental protection and poverty reduction.
