Abstract

The of babassu oil production systematization made by coconut women breakers living in the
rural communities distributed in 12 counties in the Bico do Papagaio-TO region. Since the end
of the 1980s and beginning of the 90s, babassu coconut women breakers have been articulating
and organizing themselves in associations, cooperatives and partner ships with the main
goal of improving, among other products obtained from the babassu palm, the production and
commercialization of babassu oil, aiming autonomy and empowerment of women farmers. The
organization, training processes and improvement of processing facilities have increased the
quality and yield of babassu oil and raised the income by making access to markets possible.
The collective efforts of women have guaranteed the land acquisition, the entitlement of use
and conservation of babassu plantation, and has also increased the capacity of women to
participate in the public policies.
