Vernacular and sustainable architecture: houses in Taquaruçu District, Palmas -TO

With the need to protect himself, man creates methods of construction from the materials he
finds around him, arising the vernacular architecture, present throughout history. In Tocantins,
this architecture is still present, especially in traditional communities and even in the capital.
The Taquaruçu District brings its small insistent adobe dwellings amid so many other conventional
constructions. The objectives are to provide a current view of the use and application of
land-building techniques in the District, diagnosing the vernacular techniques used and measuring
the importance of this type of construction. Bibliographical materials were used referring
to the vernacular architecture and constructions using as main Material the earth, in addition
to research done in Taquaruçu. This project awakens the importance of the use of this architectural
technique, also following for the set that takes historical, urban and landscape form.
