Keywords:
Social movements, Field education, Rural Development, AmazonAbstract
This proposal reflects on the issues of rural education and agroecological rural development in
Brazil, particularly in the Amazon, focusing on the experience of the MST from the perspective
of Southern Epistemologies. This text aims to present initial results of the project of Scientific
Initiation: “Field Development and Education in the Amazon: a study about the experience of
the MST under the Southern Epistemologies approach”. This research has been carried out
based on a qualitative approach, involving bibliographical and field research. As initial results,
it is possible to identify a redefinition of the development and education agenda of the MST
field with the insertion of the theme of agroecology in its repertoire more recently, which presents
itself as an advance in the debate of resistance and alternative to the hegemonic model
of rural development Of agribusiness. However, the MST has been facing internal and external
constraints to implement and advance in this redefinition.
