Abstract

This article refers to the participation of women agriculturalists in production and in community
associations. The main purpose of this paper is to identify in what form and to what extent the
practice of administering position where agriculturists women occupy decision making positions
and administering resources in governmental projects contributes to their growth, and,
as such, to their empowerment in public spaces and domestic environment. The research data
were collected in the course of the experiences of women small farmers participating in the
activities and workshops promoted by “Gente de Valor” Project developed by the Company for
Development and Regional Action, a public agency of the State of Bahia in partnership with the
Agriculture Development International Fund , in 34 counties of the semi-arid region between
2007 and 2012. The results indicate that the women farmers were empowered not only at the
organizational perspective, but mostly at the individual level.
