The National School Feeding Program (PNAE) aims at the formation of healthy eating habits,
that obligatory the acquisition of at least 30% of food from family farmers (FA), prioritizing the
certificates as organic or agroecological. The objective of this study was to evaluate the implementation
of PNAE in the Litoral and Campos de Cima de Serra (RS) Rural Territories, and
to stimulate it to the ecological transition process in agriculture. Secondary data analysis was
carried out from the National Fund for the Development of Education (FNDE) during the period
2011-2014. In this period, we verified that TCCS acquired on average 32.9% of the food from
the AF, while the TRL, acquired 26%. Studies in the RS showed that only 17% of municipalities
purchase organic food from AF via PNAE. In this context, the PNAE establishes itself as a tool
that promotes spaces in the institutional markets for the inclusion of organic and ecologically
based production.
